FIFTY LEGENDS OF BRITISH SPORT by C.D. Edwards
Colin Edwards has picked fifty favourite British sports personalities and
compiled detailed biographies based on the chronological order of events
throughout their careers.
The career records after each biography are some of the most detailed likely to
be found, showing achievements from schools to youth through to senior level,
from county/area to national and international honours.
This is a book which cannot fail to interest enthusiasts of sport as it is full
of names which have become synonymous with Britain at its sporting best - Sir
Roger Bannister, Gareth Edwards, Jimmy Greaves, Ian Botham, Bobby Moore,
Stirling Moss, Torvill and Dean, Tessa Sanderson and many, many more. . .
It is probably the best reference anyone could have for any of the fifty
personalities included.
Caricature drawings by artist Clive Wakfer add to the text of the book allowing
each legend to be seen in sporting character.
C.D. Edwards
Born in 1939, the author’s interest in sporting records started when he was at school and, apart from
some years spent overseas in the RAF, it has remained one of his main pursuits.
His dedicated attention to the detailed career records of sporting personalities
has occasionally brought him into contact with the sports men and women
themselves, who have shown amazement at the knowledge he has of their
achievements - sometimes long-forgotten, even by them.
The author’s own career has been with the RAF working in Road Transport Operations, with
active service in Aden, Singapore, Borneo, Cyprus and North Africa.
