This is a touching and intimate account of an agoraphobic told through the eyes of Sara Lester, beginning on the day she is taken to Glencoe Clinic to start on a course of therapy. Leaving her husband John, and seven-year-old daughter Merry, she joins the other patients, but soon discovers that the clinic has little help to offer her, and that the deep fears and psychological phobias of the others only add to her own feelings of inadequacy and failure. With John becoming increasingly distant, and finally refusing to understand her returning home following the suicide of another patient, Sara runs away to the Lake District with fellow agoraphobic Michael. Here she starts a new life with a new name, but her daughter becomes ill and Sara is traced. After experiencing the chaos of others? phobias and problems, and knowing the depth of human confusion and emotion that lie therein, it takes the therapy of true love and understanding to gently mend the broken wings of Sara?s mind.

Following the events of this book Marguerite Porthouse settled in England. She studied for two years on a commercial arts course and held a number of posts as a company manager for various firms. She was a regional secretary and counsellor for the Open Door Association.
She has had a successful writing career with many stories and poems published in a variety of different magazines and news papers, and has also had radio features produced.
Marguerite Porthouse lives with her husband Joseph in north-east England and has a son, David.
